Independent Peer Support

I provide Intentional Peer Support (IPS) for both my peers with a diagnosed mental illness and carers of those with a mental illness.

What is Peer Support?  Practitioners use relationships to see things from new angles, developing greater awareness of personal and relational patterns, supporting and challenging each other in trying new things. Utilising a trauma-informed way of relating and instead of asking “What’s wrong?” we ask “What happened?”, it encourages us to increasingly live and move towards what we want.

Having 'lived experience' with mental illness, being a carer and having completed training to become an IPS Practitioner, I have seen the overwhelming benefits this type of support can provide. My experience has been that IPS achieves better results in working toward recovery, than utilising counselling alone.

1 on 1 sessions are held in 1 hour blocks, at the client’s residence or chosen venue (café, park, etc). These services are available to people living within and up to a 30km radius of Geelong Vic GPO. Health Care & Pension Card holders are eligible for a discounted rate.

Counselling Services

I completed my Diploma in Counselling in 2013 and have built on my skills and experience in a Mental Health Services employed position over the following three and half years.

I use a range of therapy styles based on the personal needs of my client and the direction they wish to take. In addition to these therapies, because I have lived experience of mental illness, my interaction style is unique.

I assist my clients in identifying their most pressing issues and assist in prioritising the areas of most concern and/or importance. These goals are of great importance and achieving each goal is empowering, satisfying and confidence building. Having said that, there may be times when my client has an urgent and unexpected pressing issue, which in the interim takes priority over the goals set; as we all know, life has a way of disrupting plans and goals need to be fluid and flexible to allow for these hiccups.

1 on 1 sessions are held in 1 hour blocks, at the client’s residence or chosen venue (café, park, etc). These services are available to people living within and up to a 30km radius of Geelong Vic GPO. Health Care & Pension Card holders are eligible for a discounted rate.

I provide Mental Illness related training and education designed and presented to suit your organisational or group participant needs.

You can choose from instructional or interactive sessions, include presentation handouts or workbooks.

Sessions available - Half day = 3hrs includes 15min tea break.

                                   Full day = 7hrs includes 45min lunch break and 2 x 15min tea breaks.

Two day - 14hrs includes 45min lunch break and 2 x 15min tea breaks both days

Peer Advocate

For many people with a mental illness, negotiating and interacting with Doctors, Psychiatrists, Government Departments (Centrelink, NDIS, etc) can be daunting, overwhelming, anxiety inducing or just plain scary.

As a Peer Advocate I would meet with you to identify what your needs are for the upcoming appointment, attend the appointment with you and translate commonly used jargon into general terms, to assist you in achieving your desired results.

Sessions are charged based on time invested and client transport needs. These services are available to people living within and up to a 30km radius of Geelong Vic GPO. Health Care & Pension Card holders are eligible for a discounted rate.
